Summertime is full of fun at these popular events which are months in the planning and run by dedicated volunteers.
With the carnival and gala season in full swing, here are some of the towns and villages that deserve to be visited by you this summer.

Bolsover Gala at the town's Hornscroft Park draws thousands of people every year. An RAF Hurricane flypast, stuntman Dangerous Steve, singer Anthony Parsons of telly's Starstruck fame, musician River Hopkins, NB Dance Academy, children's entertainment from Glewy The Alien and Friends and dozens of stalls will be among the attractions at the 2023 gala on June 25, from 10am to 5.30pm. One of the biggest carnival days in Derbyshire will take over Buxton on July 8. There will be a parade of floats, marching bands and carnival queens at 2pm, a road race starting in Spring Gardens and finishing at the Market Place at 1.45pm and a duck race on the river Wye at 4.15pm. The Pavilion Gardens will host a dog show, organised by High Peak Guide Dogs, at 11am in a marquee. Craft stalls and circus skills will be on offer at the Pavilion Gardens from 10am to 5pm. Ambergate Carnival's procession of floats will set off from the village's recreation ground to the Hurt Arms on July 8 at 12.15pm. Carnival day attractions will include a Lancaster flypast at 1.56pm, welly wanging, children's entertainer, live music, rides, games and stalls. Admission £2 (adult), free for children; proceeds in aid of Wildings pre-school and Ambergate Primary School.
