Make reindeer food, send a letter to the North Pole, sing with elves and test toys.
Families visiting a Derbyshire shopping centre in the run-up to Christmas can take a brief break from gift buying and treat themselves to a visit to see Santa Claus.
Fraser Plus Designer Outlet East Midlands at South Normanton is offering a choice of magical grotto experiences, from creating reindeer food and posting letters to the North Pole, to singing festive songs and putting toys to the test.
Little ones can join Mrs Claus and her elves to discover everything there is to know about Santa’s magical reindeer. Young elves-in-training will choose a special name for their reindeer, complete a magical checklist, show off their best antlers and create festive reindeer food to take hom. Mrs Claus’ Reindeer Food Making Academy runs on November 21, 22 and 30 and December 1-6.
Santa’s North Pole Postal service gives little ones the chance to meet Santa and make sure their Christmas wishes reach the North Pole in plenty of time. Children can use a special letter template, add their festive message and send it on its way before enjoying a magical photo opportunity with Santa. This experience runs from November 27 to 29 and December 14-18.
Sing-Along with Santa and His Merry Elves will see families join in with the elves’ favourite Christmas tunes, accompanied by festive jingle bells and plenty of seasonal fun. Jingle all the way with Santa and his elves from December 7 to 13.
Young visitors can report for duty at Santa’s Toy Testing Workshop where little ones will discover how toys are made in Santa’s workshop and design and test a creation of their own. You child can find out whether they have what it takes to become one of Santa’s official toy testers from December 19 to 24.
Each child will receive a special Christmas present, either a festive jigsaw or paint-your-own Christmas figurine set, at the end of their visit. A photographer will also be on hand to capture the magic, with one complimentary printed photograph provided per family.
Quieter SEND sessions, hosted by Santa or Mrs Claus, will take place every Wednesday and Saturday morning from 9.30am–9.50am, across the individual activity dates listed above, offering families a calmer and more comfortable way to experience the grotto. These sessions form part of the centre’s year-round Quiet Hours, which run every Wednesday and Saturday from 9am–10am.
Tickets cost £7.50 per child, plus a small booking fee. With just six spaces available per 20-minute session, families are encouraged to book early: https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/christmas-grotto-experiences-4880700
