Folk band Flatworld plays live for Derbyshire village hall fundraiser

A folk group which has played at Glastonbury and the Hay Literature Festival will support a Derbyshire community’s fundraising efforts for its village hall.

Flatworld – which airs an eclectic mix of music from Eastern Europe, Ukraine and beyond – has been booked to play at Baslow Village Hall on September 28 at 6.45pm.

Julia Temple, marketing trustree at the village hall, said: “This is a live music fundraiser to help with the maintenance of the hall and hopefully to contribute to a new HD projector for movie afternoons.”

The musicians in Flatworld play oboe, double bass, drums, percussion, violin and guitar which combine with compelling vocals for groove-laden melodies. The band said: “We taken tunes and songs from Eastern European folk traditions (and elsewhere) and present them in a lively and accessible form – audiences are often dancing by the end of our show.”

Dragon Folk Club commented: “They are an incredible band, well worth travelling to see them!”

Flatworld was formed in 2001 and has been playing continuously ever since with appearances at high-profile events including The Green Gathering, Three Choirs Festival, Upton upon Severn Folk Festival and Ledbury Poetry Festival.

Tickets to see Flatworld playing live in Baslow cost £13 or £10 (disabled, under 16s) with additional booking fee applicable and are available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/booking/select/RdiEJKhzXNnT
