The Reds boss was speaking after seeing his side overcome Southport 3-1 at the Impact Arena on Bank Holiday Monday - a result which moved Alfreton up to fourth in the table.

And the manager was understandably jubilant.

He said: “We were totally dominant first half and could have been two or three up.

“We knew what was coming second half - they were going down the slope and we knew they were going to be direct - that we’d have to tough it out and we didn’t get going second half for 25 minutes.

“It’s tough when you’re coming up the slope.”

The win over Southport follows Saturday’s success at Stockport County and the previous week’s victory at home to Blyth Spartans.

“It’s been a fantastic week,” said Heath. “The players have been magnificent and worked so hard again today.

“It’s difficult with two games over the Bank Holiday weekend, but back-to-back wins and three wins on the trot.

“We didn’t want de ja vu with Curzon again [lost in the last minute on August 14th] - that was at the back of my mind - again we just need to be a little bit more clinical, but the good thing is when we were under pressure, when they got their goal at 1-1 then you find out what you’ve got; the spirit, desire and determination and we’ve responded again.”

And added: “It’s a difficult league. We’re never looking to be second best - we don’t fear anybody.

“The balance of the team will get better with a full squad to select. We’ve got some really good players not in the 16 at the minute, some really good players, but that’s a good position to be in.”

Alfreton travel to Darlington FC on Saturday looking to extend their winning streak.
