Tom Denton headed Town in front five minutes before half-time from a corner and Jordan Cropper scored his first goal for the club midway through the second-half.

Connor Hall’s goal for the hosts made it a nervy last 15 minutes for the Blues but they held on to claim a vital three points.

“That was as tough a game as we have had,” Pemberton said.

“We were hanging on at the end and we could just not get a grip of the game.

“It was a poor goal we gave away, we just switched off from a free-kick. It could have been avoided.

“They passed the ball better than we did in the last 10 minutes and we were hanging on.

“But you can look at the 10 minutes that we were hanging on but they were hanging on for most of the first-half, we could have been four or five up.”

Pemberton added that Tuesday night’s game against Harrogate took its toll on his team physically.

“The pressure today was we needed to win the game and I am absolutely delighted with the three points,” he said.

“We got what we deserved.

“It (escaping the relegation zone) is massively important, a psychological boost for everyone.

“We have got to make sure we do not drop back into it now which I think will be even harder.”
