A 1-0 away victory does not tell the whole story.

Nobody is getting carried away but there are no sides in the National League for Chesterfield to be fearful of now and that result wipes away the memory of our awful 3-2 home capitulation to the Magpies earlier on in the season.

The biggest obstacle for Chesterfield is now the fixture list, 23 scheduled games in just over two months will take its toll on most sides.

The National League started with one club fewer than expected and whether the season ends with 23 sides is another thing.

Seven clubs voted last week to stop the season with the rest electing to carry on.

Dover Athletic have placed their entire playing staff on furlough and won’t play another game until what they call ‘appropriate funding’ is available. They hope that more grant funding will be available as they say they can’t afford to take out any large loans.

King’s Lynn Town are hoping that they can ‘sit out the season’ and not play any more matches. If they were allowed to not play any more matches and finish bottom of the table what would happen to the points accrued by other sides against them?
