Swindon Town make approach for Chesterfield captain Will Evans

Swindon Town have made an approach to sign Chesterfield captain Will Evans on a permanent deal in the last week, we understand.

No agreement was reached and it has not developed any further since.

If it was to happen, it would mean Evans, 29, would link up again with former Spireites manager John Sheridan, who made him skipper last season.

The Robins are currently second bottom of League One but are only one point from safety.

The defender started his career at Swindon, signing his first professional contract in 2010, and went on to make his debut later that year.

The centre-back signed for the Blues when Martin Allen was manager in 2018 and his current contract expires at the end of this season.

Evans has been a regular starter this campaign, missing just one match through suspension.

Under new boss James Rowe, who he worked with at Aldershot Town, Evans has been used on the right of a back three after previously playing centrally.
