The new boss has brought in 12 new signings in less than two months, including three this week, and the Spireites have more than 30 players on their books now.

However, outgoings are expected and the club is working hard behind the scenes on some departures.

“We are always looking to improve the squad,” Rowe said when he was asked about any more incomings.

“I am not stupid, we have obviously got a lot of numbers in the squad at the moment.

“There will be outgoings but sometimes you have to act on players that become available.

“We are changing the financial outlay of the club so it looks like we are spending more now but in reality we are making a saving for the future and that is what we have got to remember.

“It is short-term pain for long-term gain. To achieve the objectives we want in the next 18 months to two years there are obviously going to be casualties along the way, not everyone can come on the same journey as you.”

Securing outgoings has been made more difficult with the seasons in the National League North and South looking in doubt, but so far the communication from clubs in Chesterfield’s division appears to be that they want to carry on.

Chesterfield certainly don’t want the season to be curtailed, and will share their thoughts on which is the best funding option available to them in the coming days, we understand.

Rowe added: “We have got to make sure we upstand our integrity and professionalism and financial stability through that and me working through that with John (Croot), Mike (Goodwin) and Martin (Thacker) on that is essential to ensure that we do it right. I can reassure you that everything is being ticked off and professionalism is being maintained.

“I am thankful to the board. It is working towards the future to make sure we are on a better financial ground so we want to balance the books better going forward into next season.”
