The big games keep on coming for the Spireites as they travel to Woking today (3pm KO).

Chesterfield’s form has dipped recently but a win this afternoon could get them back in the top seven.

The hosts, who are struggling massively with no wins in their last seven, are without a number of key players through injury and furlough.

Goal reaction from fan writer Ben

Get in there! The Spireites have an early lead! A goal they’ve deserved in my opinion, as they’ve started this game the brighter of the two teams and have offered a noticeably greater threat than they have in recent games, generating a couple of half chances in the opening five minutes. The result of one of those half chances was a corner, which was turned home expertly by Gavin Gunning. Granted some suspect Woking defending made it relatively straightforward, but it still had to be put away, and Gunning duly obliged. An encouraging start from Chesterfield here, and much more like the performance levels we’ve come to expect from James Rowe’s men.

Carline is denied by Ross from the edge of the box. Bright start from the visitors.

GUNNING!!!

0-1.

He gives Town the perfect start by nodding in Whelan’s corner.

Woking ‘keeper Ross makes a good, low save to his left to save from Whelan after Rowe’s flick-on put him in.

First shot of the match comes from Maguire who hits one from distance on his right foot but it goes wide. It didn’t look far off.

Town are in all blue, Woking are in red, white and black.

We’re underway!

Here we go at the Kingfield Stadium!

Five changes for Chesterfield with a few surprises in there including Montgomery starting in goal and Dinanga up front.

Team news reaction from fan writer Ben

The team news is in then and it’s five changes for The Spireites, with James Montgomery, Curtis Weston, Tom Whelan, Joe Rowley and Marcus Dinanga all coming in to the side to replace Grant Smith, Alex Whittle, Martin Smith, Liam Mandeville and Kairo Mitchell.

There’s certainly to dissect within all of that. One positive that immediately jumps out is that both Curtis Weston and Gavin Gunning are in the starting XI today, as they’ve been key components within this Town side and have been noticeably missed during their recent respective absences.

There are some shock names on the team sheet though, with Rowley and Dinanga ones that I would personally mark down as particularly unexpected. It should be said that is nothing against either of those players, and perhaps James Rowe thinks offering a chance to some of the more fringe players, with fire in their belly and a point to prove, may inject that little bit of extra energy required for his side to pick up a positive result here this afternoon.

Many questions to be answered then going into this one, but despite some potential surprises, I think this eleven has more than enough quality to secure a much-needed victory against Woking this afternoon. 2-0 Chesterfield is my prediction today.

FIVE changes for Chesterfield & some surprises.

Montgomery, Weston, Whelan, Rowley and Dinanga replace G.Smith, Whittle, M.Smith, Mandeville and Mitchell.

We are not sure how the Spireites might line-up this but it could be something like: Montgomery; Kerr, Gunning, Maguire; Carline, Weston, Oyeleke, Rowley; Whelan; Dinanga, Rowe.

Subs: Mandeville, Clarke, McCourt, Tyson, Yussuf
