Key Events

  • FT: Chesterfield 0 v 0 Wealdstone
  • Spireites in seventh after today’s draw with two games remaining
  • Montgomery; Carline, Yarney, Evans, Maguire; McCourt, Oyeleke; Clarke, Mandeville; Yussuf, Rowe. Subs: Whittle, M.Smith, Whelan, Dinanga, Mitchell.
  • Two changes for Chesterfield this afternoon as Will Evans and Liam Mandeville replace Gavin Gunning and Alex Whittle.
  • James Rowe starts four-match touchline ban

Looks like Chesterfield have lined-up with a back 3-4-1-2 actually. Mandeville is playing wide left. Clarke behind Yussuf and Rowe.

Yussuf cracks the woodwork with an overhead kick. Great attempt from about six yards out with his back to goal. Yarney tried to scramble the rebound in but it was cleared.

Fast start from Town who won an early corner and have had the visitors penned in with a number of long throws from Carline.

Chesterfield are in their traditional home strip, while the visitors are in a fancy grey and pink number.

James Rowe has taken his seat in the stand because of his touchline ban.

We’re underway!

The rain has been stop-start here at the Technique in the last hour so the ball should be fizzing around which should work in Chesterfield’s favour.

A reminder that James Rowe has made two changes with Gunning and Whittle being replaced by Evans ans Mandeville.

Team news thoughts from fan writer Ben

The team news is in then and it’s two changes for the Spireites this afternoon, with Will Evans and Liam Mandeville coming for Gavin Gunning and Alex Whittle, indicating a potential change of system to a back four for this one. Perhaps as expected, neither Gavin Gunning or Curtis Weston are involved in the match day squad today. Both have been carrying knocks and I think it’s sensible squad management to rest them today in what is, on paper at least, Town’s least difficult game of the run-in.

I’m sure they’ll be times where their absence is felt in this match, but I feel you still have to back the eleven that are out there to get the job done against Wealdstone this afternoon. It’s also a big chance for both Evans and Mandeville today, as you feel they are somewhat on the fringes of this Chesterfield squad, and will have to seize this opportunity to impress James Rowe if they stand any realistic chance of remaining in his plans long-term.

Overall, there are some significant absentees from this side, however I’m still backing Town to pick up three points here. Whilst it’s important not to underestimate today’s visitors, just a quick look at their recent results illustrates the issues they’ve been facing of late and if the Spireites are serious in their promotion hopes, victory today is almost non-negotiable. I’m expecting them to rise to that challenge and comfortably so. For that reason, I’ll go for a 3-0 Chesterfield victory this afternoon.

Two changes for Chesterfield this afternoon as Will Evans and Liam Mandeville replace Gavin Gunning and Alex Whittle. First start for Evans in two months. No Gunning or Curtis Weston in the squad.

Looks like four at the back: Montgomery; Carline, Yarney, Evans, Maguire; McCourt, Oyeleke; Clarke, Mandeville; Yussuf, Rowe. Subs: Whittle, M.Smith, Whelan, Dinanga, Mitchell.
