Half-time thoughts from fan writer Ben

We’ve reached half-time then and at the break it remains Chesterfield 0-0 Wealdstone.

A half in which the Spireites have been frustrated by the visitors, and it was a frustration that I think began to show slightly in the latter stages of the first forty-five, so perhaps half-time has come at a good time in that respect. For much of the half, the game has been played in the Wealdstone half and Town have been firmly in the ascendancy, however there has been little in the form of clear-cut chances, with Chesterfield’s best scoring opportunity coming from a spectacular effort from Adi Yussuf which hit the bar. Even when Town did have the ball in the net, the referee denied them, deeming that Yussuf had handled the ball in the build-up to Josef Yarney’s effort. Credit should probably be given to Wealdstone at this point too. Many expected them to come here and get turned over, however they’ve been relatively well-organised at the back and have even looked a threat on the counter at times, though like the hosts, they’ve failed to really register many meaningful efforts.

Overall, The Spireites aren’t doing an awful lot wrong so far, but they just need to find that extra gear in the final third to start putting a bit more pressure on the opposition goal. If they can do that, there’s every chance they could walk away winners this afternoon. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see an attacking change in the next 10-15 minutes if Chesterfield continue to struggle to break the visitors down. Much to be answered in the second forty-five then, and we should be in store for an interesting half of football, and one which could be huge in the context of the Spireites’ season.

HT: Chesterfield 0 v 0 Wealdstone

The Spireites have hit the woodwork through Yussuf’s overhead kick and had a goal ruled out for handball but they’ve not created as much as they would like.

For Yussuf and Oyeleke.

Oyeleke’s came after a bit of shoving between both sets of players.

Goal ruled out for Chesterfield

Yarney smashes the ball into the net from close-range but Yussuf is penalised for handball. Bit of controversy there.

Chesterfield haven’t really created anything since Yussuf hit the woodwork. Need to up the tempo again.

Go close. First, Lewis’ long-range strike takes a deflection and goes out for a corner. The delivery comes in and it reaches Lewis again at the far post, he gets another shot off from inside the area but it is blocked. 32 minutes gone, 0-0.

Midway point of first-half

Wealdstone have settled into this one now and have enjoyed a bit more possession.

It’s still the hosts who look the more dangerous though.

It’s all Chesterfield, but it remains goalless.
