National League announces start date for 2021/2022 season
The National League has confirmed the start date for the 2021/22 season.
The step one campaign will get underway on Saturday, August 21.
The National League North and National League South divisions will commence the week before, on August 14.
Further key dates, such as details about the play-offs and cup competitions, will be announced in due course, the National League said.
The current National League season did not start until October last year because of the pandemic and funding issues.
With Town hoping to make the play-offs, some Chesterfield fans may have one eye on the Football League season, which gets underway on Saturday, August 7.
The play-off finals for the Championship, League One and League Two will be held at Wembley across the final two weekends in May.
It is hoped that fans will be allowed inside stadiums regularly next season after a year of having to watch from home on live streams.
No supporters have been able to attend games at the Technique Stadium since March 2020 and Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said turnstiles cannot open no earlier than May 17.
The good news is this means Chesterfield might be able to have some people in the ground for their last home match of the regular season against Dagenham and Redbridge on May 22.
The Spireites are working incredibly hard behind the scenes to prepare the stadium for the return of supporters. Volunteers have been sprucing up the ground and plans have been ongoing for a while to make sure it is ‘Covid secure’.
