“My gut feeling is someone might come up with a decision to say we have got to try and finish this but making that happen is a different kettle of fish,” Pemberton told the DT.

“My gut feeling is that they will try to finish it - I think that is only right - my head says I just don’t see it happening.”

All leagues from steps three to seven in non-league were cancelled by the Football Association last week with results expunged meaning no promotions or relegations.

More than 100 non-league clubs have criticised the decision and are trying to get it reversed.

He explained: “I can see that probably filtering up into us because at the moment we are not getting anything to grab hold of with regards to any kind of timescale on the season getting back to any normality. Do I see it filtering up? My head says yes. I think that is probably what will happen though it is harsh on everyone.”

He added: “Football has to come a massive second to this. We are talking about something here that could wipe the economy out.

“We can’t make any decisions until we know what we are dealing with and what it is going to leave us with.”
