When asked if he has unfinished business with the club, he said: "Most definitely and that is why I have come back. I enjoyed my time here even though it was not the best season for everyone involved in the club so I am more than happy to get the deal done and get going.”

McCourt, who will wear the number 17 shirt, has been without a club since leaving Macclesfield Town last season after the Silkmen went bust and he said that experience has matured him.

"I have come on a lot as a player and in my personal life as well,” he said. “With what has gone on at Macclesfield last season it has matured me and I see myself as a more experienced player and hopefully I can bring that to the squad.

"The plans he (Rowe) has got for the club are big and the club should not be where it is. I was here when the club went down to the National League and I hold my hands up to that but I am here now and I want to put things right and got ourselves up the table and get a promotion push.

“I am delighted to get it done and I can’t wait to get going.”

Meanwhile, Rowe told the DT that some of the club’s younger players may go out on loan in the next month.

“We have a big squad that we need to think about,” Rowe said. “Some of the younger players need an opportunity to go on loan to make sure they have got game time so that when they are called upon they are ready. Mentally you might be ready but physically you are way off and your legs and your brain are not communicating quick enough so it is important that they get some development time at another club and I am sure we will work to that in the next month.”
