'I need a manager who is going to put me in and back me' - midfield man joins Chesterfield from Bolton Wanderers

Midfielder play-maker Joel Randall wants to get his career up and running again after joining Chesterfield on a season-long loan.

The 26-year-old has joined from Championship outfit Bolton Wanderers in search of regular football.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Blackpool, making ten appearances, having slipped out of Steven Schumacher’s first team plans at his parent club.

Randall has kept in good shape over the summer and has seen action during pre-season and he’s ready for a fresh push under Paul Cook at the SMH Group Stadium.

"It’s nice when hear a gaffer say good things – I know it’s their job to get you through the door – but it’s nice to hear some praise from someone watching you from afar,” said Randall.

"At this point I need a manager who is going to put me in and back me and that’s the case here. Hopefully I can re-pay his faith in me and that’s something I really want to buy into this season.”

Randall had four years at Peterborough United before joining Bolton last year.

He becomes Chesterfield’s 12th new arrival of the summer, with the paperwork being completed just before last night’s 11pm transfer deadline.

”It was a really late one but I’m really happy to get it over the line,” he added. "We’ve had on and off contact for a couple of weeks and I’ve been keeping a keen eye on the club and asking around.

"Everything was so positive about the gaffer and the club and the fans and that made my decision easy.

"When I’m at my best I’m creating and scoring and making a difference. That’s something I want to get back to and I feel this is a great place to do it, with a good team and a striving team.”

Randall might not be Chesterfield’s only piece of transfer business today, with another deal believed to be in the offing.
