With the ink barely dry on his season-long loan contract from Bolton Wanderers, Joel Randall’s stoppage-time equaliser just seven minutes after coming on as a sub made the 3-3 draw against Barnet almost feel like a victory for a team that had trailed three times.
The fleet-footed Louie Marsh’s two goals on his full debut made him an obvious Man of the Match and it was that, combined with a big dollop of resilience, that helped snaffle a point against lively and dangerous opponents who are starting this season how they finished the last one.
Here are our Spireites ratings from the game.

9. Louie Marsh 8
Louie Marsh 8: Tucked into the three behind sole striker Bryden, the Sheffield United loanee has the tools to unpick defences so his goals were a bonus. Sweet first and an opportunist second made him Chesterfield's first player to score twice on full debut since Andy Scott 30 long years ago. Now follow that. Photo: Tina Jenner

10. Liam Mandeville 6
Liam Mandeville 6: Used loads of energy in a Man of the Match showing against Gillingham a few days earlier and it might have had an effect. Went close in a Spireites push in the run-up to half time. Hooked for Josh Koroma just before the hour. Photo: Brian Eyre

11. Fraser Bryden 6
Fraser Bryden 6: Handed his first start ahead of Lee Bonis. No questioning the endeavour but chances don't seem to be falling his way. Still early days in the blue shirt. Photo: Brian Eyre

12. Lee Bonis 7
Lee Bonis 7: On for the last half-hour in place of Bryden, the front man chased everything and helped Chesterfield get a second wind in a match that could easily have run away from them. Put the third equaliser on a plate for Joel Randall. Photo: Barrington Coombs
