'He certainly has a future here' - James Rowe on Tom Denton's Chesterfield future

The 31-year-old has had an operation on his knee and is set to be out for more than 10 weeks.

The striker is the Spireites’ top goalscorer this season with nine goals and is out of contract at the end of the season.

When asked if Denton fits into his plans, Rowe, speaking at Monday night’s online fans forum, said: “You win different games in different ways at this level and certainly he would have been part of my plans this year (had he not been injured).

“Obviously with a serious injury we need to make sure first and foremost mentally that he is okay because it is a long stint out.

“We know his worth, he has scored goals since I have come into the club and he was the top scorer before I came into the club.

“They are hard to find, goalscorers, and he is certainly that.

“I know what weapons he has, the team showed that they can adapt with him in the team as well.

"We picked up a lot of points when he was in the team so no doubt hopefully he has a future here at the club.”

He added: “The art of management is making sure he does fit in and make sure we play with variation so that he can be included because like I said players like that, with weapons that he has, are unique at this level and in the EFL so certainly Tom has a future here.”
