Furious Spireites boss Danny Wilson: 'It was s***'
Danny Wilson was in no mood to sugarcoat his opinion of tonight's bitterly disappointing EFL Trophy performance.
His Town side were beaten 4-1 by League Two side Accrington Stanley at the Proact and Wilson made his players very aware of his feelings after the game.
When he finally emerged from the dressing room, he was straight to the point.
“It was s***,” he said.
“I don’t know if you can put that.
“The first 45 minutes were so disappointing from my point of view.
“We lacked energy, we lacked pace, we didn’t pass the ball, we didn’t defend in key areas.
“The first goal is a bit of a lucky one but we had the signs before that, we didn’t get round the ball, we were too pedestrian.”
Wilson questioned whether his players expected an easy evening against lower league opposition and blasted the performance of players getting an opportunity in the first team, along with the experienced heads in the side.
“All I can do is give them opportunities, it’s up to them to take them,” he said.
“The lads who had an opportunity didn’t come to the plate.
“It just goes to prove, if we have got injuries we want them back as quick as we can.
“I can stand up for anyone if they’re having a bad time, but that tonight was poor.
“For experienced players to let things happen around them like they did, in my opinion is criminal.”
Wilson admitted he verbalised his anger in the dressing room at full-time.
“After the game they knew,” he said.
“It’s not very often I can go over the top but I did today because I think that could have been a league game and cost us three points.
“You can’t have performances like that and expect to get away with it.
“If players don’t understand how and why they’ve lost the game, in the manner they’ve lost it, they do now.”
