That’s according to Spireites boss John Pemberton, who was speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference on Monday lunchtime.

Town can jump from 21st to ninth with a win at newly-promoted Wealdstone, who have won one, drawn one and lost two so far this season.

“We have got a fantastic opportunity to win a football match and get where I feel, and I believe, we should be and that is the top half of the table at this moment in time,” Pemberton said.

“I think if we had not probably played the strong teams we have played, and played the way we have played, I think we would be in a better position.”

The Stones won their first match at this level since 1988 when they defeated Wrexham 4-3 on Saturday so Pemberton is wary of the confidence they will have.

Dean Brennan’s men have had no problem scoring goals with eight already, but they are struggling to keep them out at the other end, conceding 11.

“They have been competitive,” Pemberton added. “They have shipped a couple of goals and were behind at the weekend, but they have got spirit and they have got some good players and they score goals.

“We have got to make sure we do what we do and be organised and do it well otherwise we will be in for another tough game.

“I know that we have got to be better in possession. I thought we had some good spells in possession against Stockport and we caused them some problems, but first and foremost you have got to match what people chuck at you and you have got to be able to take some punches on the chin and then come out fighting.”
