Chesterfield 'missed' midfielder in draw against Torquay United, says manager James Rowe

The midfielder came off late on in the win at Yeovil Town with a knock and did not recover in time to play in the draw against Torquay United yesterday.

Manager James Rowe felt he would have made a difference as the Spireites let slip a two-goal lead.

Town will assess him ahead of travelling to Surrey and Rowe said he is ‘50-50’ to be in contention.

"I think we missed him in there,” Rowe told the DT.

"I think we missed his composure.

"But I think Connor Lemonheigh-Evans was a miss for Torquay as well.

"It was a shame both of those players could not play in a game like this.

"They are two very strong players in this league so it would have been nice for the 5,000 crowd plus the viewers at home to see them.

"The game was a good advert for the league because it was very tactical in the first-half and the second-half when it opened up we controlled it.”

Town suffered a late sucker-punch with the Gulls scoring twice in seven minutes to steal a point.

When asked what could have been done to avoid conceding the goals, Rowe said: “I need to see the first one back but I think it is offside. Obviously there is a tackle missed on the 18-yard box but it is unlucky because Curtis (Weston) has gone in and it has deflected back.

"The last one has been dribbled maybe too far, we need to address that and maybe stop that coming so deep into the edge of our 18-yard box.”

Calvin Miller put in a strong performance on Saturday and both of Chesterfield’s goals came from his crosses.

"There were a couple of others as well, one in the first-half to George Carline in the first-half so he certainly played his part this evening,” Rowe added.

Like Chesterfield, next opponents Woking threw away a two-goal to lose 3-2 at Eastleigh with former Spireite Tom Whelan scoring two penalties to turn the scoreline around.

The Cards are 18th in the table with two wins and three defeats from their five games.
