Chesterfield favourite Eoin Doyle linked with shock move to Mansfield Town

Chesterfield favourite Eoin Doyle is being linked with a shock move to rivals Mansfield Town.

Doyle, 32, scored 25 goals for League Two champions Swindon Town after signing from Bradford City on a deal until the end of the season.

According to a report in the national media, the Stags, who finished 21st in League Two last season, are “major players” in the race for his signature.

Doyle will be able to sign on a free transfer when his contract runs out at the end of this month.

The experienced striker joined the Spireites in May 2013 from Hibernian.

The Irish striker spent left for Cardiff City in February 2015 for a fee believed to be around £1m after scoring 25 goals that season.

He was part of the Chesterfield team that won promotion to League One in 2014 and got to the JPT final.

Overall he scored 38 goals in 84 appearances for the Spireites.

Eoin Doyle spent two years at Chesterfield before joining Cardiff City.
