The left-back has signed an 18-month deal.

The 27-year-old links up with boss James Rowe again after playing under him at Gloucester City, who he left this week.

Whittle joins his former Tigers’ teammates Akwasi Asante and George Carline in following Rowe to the Technique Stadium.

It takes the number of signings under Rowe to eight, following the arrivals of Jack Clarke and Marcus Dinanga earlier this week.

“Once I knew of Alex’s availability, we moved quickly to secure his signature,” Rowe said,

“It is important to build for the future and not just the short term. Alex has great energy and his strong character will fit in well in the changing room.”

Whittle, who started his career at Liverpool, joined Gloucester in the summer on a two-year deal after leaving Boston United.

His other clubs include Dunfermline, AFC Fylde, Southport, York City, Forest Green Rovers and Warrington Town.
