Chesterfield boss James Rowe hails 'lethal' Kabongo Tshimanga after debut goal in opening day win at Aldershot Town

Tshimanga clinically doubled the Spireites’ lead four minutes after Danny Rowe put them ahead from the penalty spot after Jeff King was fouled.

Both goals came in the final 20 minutes as the Blues began the new campaign with a deserved victory.

Rowe told the DT: “I am really pleased for Kabs to get his first goal, it was a really good goal. What a way to welcome yourself as a Spireite.

"You can see he provides something different to the team, he is that focal point in terms of his runs, his movement and when he is in there he is lethal, which he has shown today.

"I think he was upset with Danny Rowe about the penalty but I will let them get on with that!”

Chesterfield were not as fluent or as dominant as they would have liked in the first-half but they stepped it up after the break.

The way the game panned out was no surprise to boss Rowe, who said: "It was a game of two halves but I knew it would be because of the emotion of the crowd being back in and we had to manage that and we did really well.

“We wanted a clean sheet, we got one and we did it in different ways,

"In the first-half we wanted to turn them around and we did. We could have done more with the ball. Our decision-making was not great but we defended the 18-yard box well.

"In the second-half we wanted to open up the pitch, get our counter press right and we knew the goals would come.

"We won the game with two different performances within the game.”

Curtis Weston got the nod over Saidou Khan in midfield and Rowe explained it was due to his experience and because they were away from home.

Rowe said the use of three left-footed centre-back worked out ‘good and bad’ and that Manny Oyeleke came off late on with cramp.

"It is really pleasing for us, 2-0 on the first day of the season, I can’t ask for more than that,” he added.
