Chesterfield and ex directors close to finalising agreement but no boardroom return for Allen

Chesterfield are very close to finalising a deal with four ex directors over their £1.8m loans in the club.

Club chiefs are hopeful of making an announcement by the end of the week, having confirmed last Friday that they had agreed a deal in principle.

The two parties are expected to make a joint statement once it’s finalised.

Regardless of the agreement, the Derbyshire Times understands owner Dave Allen will not return to the boardroom, but he will continue to plug the financial gaps until a buyer can be found.

Company secretary Ashley Carson said: “I will be running the club.

“Dave will meet the club’s future shortfalls until it is sold.

“We’ve got to try and get it on a better footing so we don’t have to keep going to him for money as much.” Meanwhile the club’s attempts to win over fans will continue with a second live Q&A broadcast in January.

Fans can pose questions to club chiefs in advance with Carson hoping to be joined on the broadcast by Spireites chairman Mike Warner.
