It’s four straight wins and counting for Chesterfield Women - and manager Pete Jarvis was delighted with the latest 1-0 victory.

Lauren Brogan’s first-half strike and a string of great saves from Player of the Match Zoe Millington helped bank three points against Wythenshawe and move the Spireites fifth in their section in Women’s National League Midlands One.

It was the fourth time this season that Chesterfield have won 1-0.

“We’re making a habit of the 1-0s, but I don’t mind as long as we keep winning and keeping as many clean sheets as we do,” said Jarvis.

“The performance, the effort and the commitment that has gone in is unbelievable. We’re really adding lots to our game.

“The first half was as good as I’ve seen us in possession, and then we protected our lead a little bit more in the second half.”

Laura Porritt forced a save and Millie Standen a goal-line clearance in the first half but Millington produced three important stops before the decisive moment arrived right on half time.

Brogan pushed up for a set piece and found the bottom corner with a looping effort.

In the second half Chesterfield almost doubled their advantage when Elin Morin went on a mazy run and had two quick-fire efforts brilliantly saved.

Either side of that it was a case of the Spireites weathering the pressure.

They also survived a penalty shout and Katie O’Gara headed a super chance wide for the visitors before Chesterfield closed out the win.

Next up is a trip to Hertfordshire on Sunday to take on Harpenden Town in the FA Cup first round.

To complete a good week, the Development side swept aside Ashbourne Ladies 7-1 in the County Cup.

Cerys Brooks bagged a hat-trick and and Lucy Bridgewater, Layla Hassen, Scarlett Bodley and Sophie Goodridge also got on the scoresheet.
