Other goals from Jordan Robertson and a late brace from sub Jamie Jackson completed an emphatic 6-0 win for the Reds, who played throughout the 90 minutes at an incessant dominating tempo.

United’s keeper Scott Lowe had to make saves from both Sam Smith and Jones before the latter found the corner of the net with an angled drive in the fifth minute of the tie to ease Alfreton ahead.

Lowe went on to block another effort from Jones as well as holding a speculative attempt by Joe Leesley before Jack Upton’s rising drive from distance represented Long Eaton’s first shy at goal in the 29th minute.

The Reds doubled their advantage nine minutes before half-time when a long through ball from Jordan Robertson, playing much deeper than usual, was squared by Smith for Jones to rifle past Lowe from the edge of the area.

Lindon Meikle then volleyed over after Todd Jordan had pulled back a Leesley corner, the first period ending with Brad McGowan’s towering back-post header being hacked off the line from a Leesley free-kick.

The visitors found a glorious opening four minutes after the restart, with Jarrod Westcarr’s darting run ending with a save from Matt Duke, who was otherwise untested.

A blistering three-goal spell in six minutes completely demoralised a Long Eaton side that had genuinely tried to compete, Jones completing his treble on the hour when he literally picked his spot from the edge of the area with a low drive from a Meikle cross.

Two minutes later Robertson squeezed a Dan Bradley pass inside Lowe’s near post from six yards, and a fifth goal followed in the 64th minute when Jackson converted a Jones cross from ten yards with a confident shot.

Lowe somehow managed to save Robertson’s close-range effort after Joe lronside’s adventurous bye-line run in the 76th minute, the keeper then denying lronside who could not generate the required power to beat the keeper.

The scoring was completed 11 minutes from time when Allan pulled back a deep Bradley cross to leave Jackson with an unmissable tap-in, the move initiated by Cliff Moyo’s right-flank expedition.
