Quick wickets help keep Derbyshire’s hopes alive against Surrey

Two wickets in the space of four balls have kept Derbyshire in the LV County Championship Division Two match against Surrey at Derby.

Dominic Sibley and Ben Foakes showed determination in helpful bowling conditions to take Surrey’s lead past 170 after Dean Elgar had been bowled by one that kept low from Tony Palladino in the second over of the morning.

The fourth wicket pair added 59 in 20 overs until Sibley was lbw to Wayne White after batting for just over three hours for 46 before Foakes was bowled in the next over by Mark Footitt for 16 which took him 90 minutes.

At lunch the game was intriguingly poised with Surrey 166-5, a lead of 198 with five sessions remaining in the match.
