Central Midlands League Review - October 3

Hucknall Town travelled the short distance to Arnold Town, inflicting a 2-0 defeat on their East Midlands Counties League opponents.

Kajally Danso gave Hucknall a 38th minute lead with Michael Banister delivering the killer blow four minutes from time.

Blidworth Welfare also faced East Midlands Counties opposition in Graham Street Prims and they too progressed with a 2-1 win.

Tim Gregory opened the scoring with a stunning overhead kick, the winner coming from Keenan Leeds.

Pinxton faced Northern Counties East side Lincoln Moorlands and came home with a 4-1 scoreline to their credit.

Luke Walker gave his side an interval lead and after Moorlands equalised, goals from Nathan Hollingworth and two for Jake Vernon gave Pinxton an emphatic win.

Harworth Colliery must be wondering how they managed to go out of the competition after leading Hallam by three goals at half-time.

Gregg Archer with a fifth minute penalty, Tommy Durrant and Leigh Warriner gave Harworth what looked to be an unassailable lead, but the home side turned the game on its head in eight second-half minutes as they rattled in four to claim an unlikely win.

It was not such a good day for the fifth CML side, Dinnington Town, as they endured an afternoon to forget at West Didsbury and Chorlton, going down 13-1 to their North West Counties opponents.

Back in the league, Appleby Frodingham retained their two point lead at the top of the Black Dragon Badges North division with a 3-0 defeat of Newark Town. Kirk Shrimpton and Connor Couch gave Frod a two goal lead in the opening seven minutes which was how it stayed until the hour mark when Nathan Watson’s shot took a huge deflection to seal the win.

Phoenix remain in second place after a 2-1 win at Brodsworth Welfare. Rob Gorman was on target with both of the Phoenix goals, Josh Dodds replying for Brodsworth.

Wayne Garrity took his total for the season to ten as he scored a hat trick in Dronfield Town Reserves’ 4-0 win over Bilsthorpe, Dan Hamilton adding one to the total.

On the east coast Danny Barron rescued a point for Easington United five minutes from time after they had trailed to a 64th minute goal from Bentley Colliery’s Ryan Nicholson.

Friday night’s game included a hat-trick for Retford’s Aaron Blakey in a 5-0 defeat of Welbeck Welfare, with the other goals coming from Ashley Chapman and Will Tomlinson, a result which lifted Retford to third.

The match between the bottom two in the Black Dragon Badges South division saw Mickleover RBL almost double their goal tally for the season as they picked up their first win in style, hammering Southwell City 7-1.

Piers Thompson, Jamie Carter and Jamie Sleigh all rattled in two for the Legion with Dave Moon also scoring, Will Wheat getting a consolation for Southwell.

Matlock Town Reserves bounced back from last week’s six-goal defeat at Selston by scoring six of their own at Keyworth United. Jack Siddall’s hat-trick was improved on by goals for Matt Wilkinson, Bamoussa Cisse and Matt Andrews. Conner Parkin got both for Keyworth.

Danny Fullwood and Tomas Poole put Clay Cross Town two up at the interval at Holbrook St Michaels, Rob Chard’s 85th minute goal for the home side proving not enough to share the points.

Swanwick Pentrich Road and Hucknall Rolls drew one all at Highfield Road, Shane Buckerfield’s goal for the Swans being countered by a Greg Conn penalty.

Top score of the day came in the Reserve division at Holbrook Sports, where visitors Teversal came out on top 7-3. Tevie’s scorers were Lewis Weaver with four, Josh Radford, Kyle Hempshall and Matthew Langley, Holbrook’s reply coming from Callum Green, Matthew Collins and Jamie Shelton.

In the early kick-off, Hucknall Town claimed top spot after a 3-0 win over Blidworth Welfare, Rorie Francis, Ethan Barnes and Jarrod Davies with a goal apiece.

Pinxton edged past Swanwick 3-2 at Wharf Road. Josh Bye, Lewis Rutter and Ki Smith were the home side’s scorers, David Robinson and Carl Wilding on target for the Swans.

Harworth went down 5-3 at home to Mickleover RBL, Mick Wibberley, Kyle Pashley and Connor Gresham the Harworth scorers.

There was one match in the Phoenix Trophies Reserve League Cup, Belper United picking up their first win of the season by two goals to nil at Sherwood Colliery, Tristan Spencer and Tariq Harvey the scorers.

The County Cup competitions started in earnest with several CML teams involved.

In the Notts Senior Cup there was an upset for Eastwood Community who went down 2-1 at Coronation Park to Notts Senior League strugglers Beeston, Kione Gordon the Eastwood scorer.

There was better news for Sherwood Colliery as they won 5-0 at Cotgrave. Julian Topliss leading the way with a hat-trick, with Jammy Meehan and Lee Easom getting one each.

Linby Colliery had a walk-over against Attenborough.

In the Notts Intermediate Cup, Eastwood Community’s reserves fared no better than the first team, losing 4-1 at Bingham Town, the Eastwood scorer Tim Clarke.

Collingham also benefitted from a walk-over as Beeston Reserves scratched.

There were mixed fortunes for the two sides in the West Riding Challenge Cup. Askern went through to Round two with a 2-1 win at Kirk Deighton Rangers with Shaun Mundy and Michael Attard on target, but Thorne Colliery went down 4-1 at Knaresborough Town Reserves.
