The spectacular illuminated trail features around a million twinkling lights along a mile-long route.

This year the now annual favourite is back with exciting new showstoppers alongside much-loved festive favourites.

And Culture Creative's artistic director Zoe Bottrell has exclusively revealed the magic awaiting visitors.

Among this year's biggest attractions is a stunning moon-and-stars installation on the boathouse pond.

The secret behind its spectacular moonlight illusion? Zoe explains: "It's a very delicate sea of stars that are actually floating in the water themselves.

"And then we create half a moon that is illuminated from behind. So once that half moon is illuminated, it continues to create a full moon by the reflection in the water.

"The biggest challenge is making sure there's no line in between halves so that that whole moon becomes a thing."

And its location promises an unforgettable surprise.

"You walk around the corner, you have no idea until you get there what's going to be there and then all of a sudden that vista opens up in front of you."

Another newcomer is a spectacular illuminated stag, celebrating Belton's wildlife.High above visitors.

Light as a Feather creates another magical moment. Zoe explains: "It's a beautiful installation high up in the trees and just looks as if those feathers are going to come flowing down on your head."

Also expect snow!

“We have falling snow in Belton this year, which I'm sure will become a great favourite, especially for families,” reveals Zoe.

Glittering ribbon tunnel arches, spectacular tree shows and dazzling festive colour is also coming - she descried the ribbon arches as "Christmas on steroids".

Returning favourites include the hugely popular Christmas Cathedral, Laser Garden and Fire Garden. The latter promises something particularly special in the sunken garden outside the Orangery.

"There's always something special about going down into that space," says Zoe.

Families can also enjoy illuminated wicker woodland animals, pixel tree shows and spectacular projections onto Belton House.

And Santa makes an appearance?

"Oh, we couldn't not have Santa. We’d get told off if we didn't have him!"

Visitors can toast marshmallows, enjoy fairground rides and explore two food-and-drink courtyards, with undercover seating available this year.

Zoe's top tips? Wrap up warm, wear sensible footwear and bring a waterproof coat. Allow an hour to 90 minutes to explore the illuminated trail.

The largely flat route accommodates wheelchairs and pushchairs, while quieter sessions will offer a more relaxed experience.

"Photos and selfies are all the rage, but also just actually soak in the atmosphere that's around you and be there in the moment as opposed to wanting to record it for everybody else all the time," she says.

"Every twist and turn in the trail will provide you with a different vista."

This year, well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome to accompany you along the trail, allowing the whole family, four-legged friends included, to enjoy the magical Christmas experience together. But note that Wednesday, December 16, will be a dog free night.

Protecting the precious landscapes and wildlife that make these spectacular trails possible remains a priority.

Behind the spectacle, modern LED technology now helps reduce energy consumption, while proceeds from Belton ticket sales help fund the National Trust's conservation work, protecting its gardens, grounds and historic landscapes for future generations.

Zoe sums up the philosophy beautifully: "The only thing we should be leaving behind is footprints and memories."
