This will then lead to relatively rapid thaw of the snow and the combination of rain and the melting snow may lead to flooding.
Further persistent heavy rain will also likely occur later on Wednesday and into Thursday particularly in northeast England and North Yorkshire.
Motorists have also been warned that spray and flooding on roads will possibly make journey times longer while bus and train services may be affected.
There is also a possibility of flooding of a few homes and businesses.
