VIDEO: Shirebrook pub blaze

These dramatic pictures show firefighters tackling a massive pub blaze in Shirebrook last night (Saturday, September 28th).

Six appliances and a high-rise platform were called to the White Swan public house in Portland Road yesterday following calls to emergency services, who suspect it was started deliberately.

The blaze was so intense that the building finally collapsed while crews were still tackling it, a fire service spokesman said.

The building had previously been used by squatters and fire investigations which took place after the fire was put out revealed that the blaze may have been started on purpose.

“Intelligence from the scene revealed that the building had been used by homeless people, but there were no persons trapped and we did not have to carry out any rescues,” a spokesman for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue told the Chad.

“A fire investigation was carried out last night and we are treating this incident as suspicious.”

Six pumps from stations around the area were called to the blaze at around 4.20pm yesterday (Saturday, 28th September).

The high-rise appliance was drafted in from Derby and played an active part in the operation, while appliances from Mansfield and Warsop were returned to base as the blaze subsided, the service said.

Nobody was injured in the blaze.
