Tributes paid to hospice’s volunteer

Jack Eagle, 88, was one of the Risley-based hospice’s longest serving volunteers, first offering his time in May 1991.

His wife, who died in 2008, was also a committed volunteer.

Jack helped at the Day Care Unit by getting drinks, organising activities, chatting with guests, helping with mealtimes and giving at-seat hand and foot massage. He was a Trustee of the hospice from December 1994 to November 2005 and was responsible for setting up the hospice’s carer’s support group.

Cally Cheetham, Treetops Hospice founder, said: “I am so sorry to hear of Jack’s death, but very glad that he was able to be active until the end – that is a great blessing.

“He and Olive were such a big part of Treetops – they are owed a great debt of gratitude for all of their time and effort and for the joy and cheerfulness with which they approached any task, however menial, however difficult.

“They were greatly loved by all.”
