Train services between Sheffield and Derby reopen with delays following death on tracks near Chesterfield

East Midlands Railway (EMR) services between Derby and Sheffield are now back up and running following a death on train tracks near Chesterfield.

The line between the two cities was closed at around 10.40am today (Wednesday) after police and paramedics were called to the incident this morning.

Sadly, the person was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit by a train.

Following the incident British Transport Police said officers were called to Chesterfield Railway Station at around 10.38am following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

A spokesperson said “Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Since this morning’s closure an EMR spokesperson has confirmed the line has now reopened, however delays remain between Derby, Nottingham and Sheffield.
