M1 in Derbyshire ‘cleared’ after multi-vehicle crash

Highways England has said the M1 Southbound in Derbyshire is now 'clear' after a serious crash this morning.

The agency closed the southbound carriageway between Junction 28 and Junction 27 shortly before 10am.

It had reported ‘severe’ delays of more than 75 minutes – and advised motorists to allow extra time for their journey and to consider alternate routes, suggesting one that allowed drivers to re-join the M1 at Junction 25.

Posting on Twitter, Nottinghamshire Police said: “We are currently dealing with a multi-vehicle crash on the M1 southbound, J28-27. The carriageway is blocked so please avoid the area if possible as there are likely to be long delays.”

At around 12pm, a Highways England spokesperson said: “Incident cleared, All open again.”

However, one motorist replied saying: “Still a carpark 3.7 miles from J28!”

Traffic Officers, Derbyshire Roads Policinng Unit, Nottinghamshire Police and East Midlands Ambulance Service all attended the scene.

It is not currently known if anyone has been injured.
