M1 closed in Derbyshire due to 'serious collision'

The M1 southbound in Derbyshire is closed due to a serious collision, Highways England says.

The motorway is closed southbound between Junction 28 and Junction 27.

Officers from Derbyshire police, units from Derbyshire Fire & Rescue, paramedics from East Midlands Ambulance and Air Ambulance are on scene.

Nottinghamshire Police advised drivers to avoid the area if possible.

The force tweeted: “We are currently dealing with a multi-vehicle crash on the M1 southbound, J28-27.

"The carriageway is blocked so please avoid the area if possible as there are likely to be long delays.”

A diversion is available, Highways England advises:

Exit at J28 and take the A38 south towards Derby;

At Little Eaton roundabout exit on to the A61 towards Derby;

At The Pentagon Roundabout take the A52 eastbound;

Remain on the A52 eastbound to re-join the M1 at J25.

At around 12pm, Highways England said the incident had now cleared.
