Derbyshire County Council has confirmed that it hopes to reopen a road that was closed back in January 2020 after a landslip in a matter of weeks.

Lea Road, near Cromford, was hit by a landslip in January 2020 and work started in 2021 to fix it. The project was paused in May 2021, however, as engineers discovered the landslip was still moving and had cracked a sewer pipe running underneath.

The pipe was mended and work was due to begin again in November 2021 when the road suffered a further collapse.

Repairs along the route have continued this year and Derbyshire County Council have revealed that Lea Road could open to motorists again in just a few weeks.

A DCC spokesperson said: “We are on the final stretch of this difficult job and are hopeful that Lea Road will reopen in early December. Our contractors have to finish a stone wall, resurface the road and paint on the white lines.

“We appreciate that this closure has been very difficult for local people and we thank everyone for their patience.”
