Tributes to well-known Derbyshire farm shop owner after 'untimely' death

Tributes have been paid to the co-founder of a much-loved Derbyshire farm shop after his death.

Steve Croot, co-founder of Croots Farm Shop and Café, at Duffield, passed away at home on Sunday, August 15, after being taken ill.

His family say they are devastated by the loss of Steve,who was well known for his ‘passion’ for local produce, support for the community in Amber Valley and his charity work.

A statement by the family said: “It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden and untimely passing of Steve Croot, co-founder of Croots Farm Shop.

"Devoted husband to Kay, and loving father to Nicole and Jamie, Steve died on Sunday, at home, after being taken ill.

“Family, friends and the whole team at Croots Farm Shop are devastated by the loss of Steve, who was well-known in Derbyshire for his passion for local produce, his support for the community and his dedication to helping charities.”

The statement, released on Croots’ Facebook page, added: “In accordance with family wishes, Croots Farm Shop remains open as normal.

"We appreciate your support and understanding at this difficult time. Please bear with us, as we try to come to terms with our loss.

“A book of condolence is being opened in the shop for any customers who would like to pay their respects, and we thank you so very much for your kind comments and messages.”

The popular Wirksworth Road family-run farm shop unveiled a new menu, redecorated cafe and signage earlier this summer.
