Tributes to 'absolute gentleman' who died in Chesterfield car and tractor crash as investigations continue

Tributes have been paid to an ‘absolute gentleman’ who died in Chesterfield when a large trailer became detached from a tractor and fell on a car.

Officers are continuing to investigate the cause of the incident after being called to Station Lane in Old Whittington, at the junction of Ashcroft Drive, at 1.10pm yesterday (Thursday, July 30) following reports that the trailer had fallen upon a Toyota Aygo car.

The passenger in the car sadly died at the scene while the driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The tractor driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Shocked Chesterfield residents reacted to news of the incident and passed on their condolences to the families involved.

On our Facebook page, Pat Rawson posted: “So very sad. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”

Nick Townsend said: “We all lost a true friend and absolute gentleman. Thoughts to his family. A great loss of someone so special and irreplaceable. So sad and very sorry for the loss.”

Jules Darby posted: “Sending my sincere condolences and strength to the family and friends of the passenger. Hope the driver makes a full recovery.”

Derbyshire Constabulary officers want to hear from any witnesses or anyone who has dashcam footage of either vehicle before the incident. Call 101 and quote reference 610 of July 30 or contact police via the website or social media.
