Staveley deputy headteacher to retire from school which has been part of his life since 1973

Keith Brown, 58, will retire from Netherthorpe School in Staveley this summer.

Mr Brown, of Woodthorpe, was a pupil at what was then called Netherthorpe Grammar School between 1973 and 1980, excelling in sports.

While at the school, he met his future wife, Paula.

Mr Brown went on to gain a degree in applied chemistry and later trained to be a teacher.

He began his teaching career at Earl Marshal School in Sheffield in 1986.

In 1998, Mr Brown started teaching at Netherthorpe school as head of science and rose up the ranks to become deputy headteacher in 2011.

Mr Brown, who taught his son Alex at the school between 2008 and 2015, said: “Netherthorpe has been part of my life since 1973.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here both as student and for the last 22 years as a teacher.

“As a student I enjoyed the sporting side of school more than the academic and would like to thank ex-deputy headteacher Chris Townsend for all his support while I was a student at Netherthorpe.

“Looking back, I have very fond memories of arriving as head of science in 1998 and then going on to secure science college status for the school.

“My proudest achievement was project managing the new build at Netherthorpe and ensuring the ethos and atmosphere of this great school were maintained.

“Netherthorpe is a fantastic school and I wish the students and staff all the best for the future.

“I will dearly miss them.”
