Councillor Ed Fordham, who is gay, said: “I thought this year's Pride was outstandingly brilliant, hugely well organised and a superb showcase for the town and LGBT communities. Brilliant to have the mayor Glenys Falconer in attendance too...”
The Liberal Democrat councillor for Brockwell, who is also on the county council, was among more than 6,000 revellers who were entertained by stars such as Big Brovaz, Stooshe, Sonia and drag acts Joe Black and Ella VaNight at Stand Park recreation ground on Sunday.
Town centre businesses, including Freds Haberdashery, showed their support for the LGBT communities by decorating their shop fronts. Rainbow coloured Progress Pride flags have been flying outside premises including the town hall for the past month.
Coun Fordham said: “I am very proud of the flags which showed clearly for all to enjoy what a great inclusive town this is and how strong the support is for the LGBT communities and also how delighted we are to have such a strong and successful Pride.
“Massive credit belongs to Dan Walker who does a huge amount to make Pride happen - without him and his team it would be very different indeed and the whole town owes him a huge debt of thanks.”
