Pictures released of dad who died in Chesterfield road tragedy as tributes continue to pour in

Former serviceman Jon-Paul Prigent lost his life on Station Lane, Old Whittington, when a large trailer containing soil became detached from a tractor and fell on the car he was in.

The 47-year-old programme manager, of Laburnum Street, Hollingwood, was giving one of his children a driving lesson at the time of the incident, Chesterfield Coroner’s Court heard on Friday.

Mr Prigent was involved with Chesterfield Hockey Club (CHC).

Paying tribute to him this week, CHC joint chair Rob Anderson said: “Jon was a much-loved member of CHC, representing many teams in the club and being well known for his fierce competitiveness as well as his strong belief in fair play and developing youth hockey.

“Jon served with our armed forces with great pride.

“He played a sport he loved and had an amazing family and group of friends.

“Hockey is about many things but we believe friendship and family are at its core and so our thoughts and prayers are with Catherine, Oliver and Maisie in these difficult times.”

Many within Staveley Womens’ Hockey Club knew Mr Prigent.

A spokesperson for that club said: “Jon was an absolute gentleman, generous with a great sense of humour, an all-round good guy who will be greatly missed.”

Meanwhile, this JustGiving page has been set up in Mr Prigent’s memory to raise money for the Royal British Legion, a charity he ‘passionately’ supported.

On our Facebook page, many of our readers paid tribute to Mr Prigent with one describing him as an ‘irreplaceable’ person.

Mr Priget was a passenger in the Toyota Aygo car when the incident happened at around 1.10pm on Thursday.

The driver of the car was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The tractor driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and subsequently released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Derbyshire Constabulary officers are continuing to investigate the tragedy and any witnesses should call 101, quoting reference number 610 of July 30.
