Marketing Peak District & Derbyshire says people should ‘act responsibly’ to help protect communities in the Peak District.

Managing director Jo Dilley said: “We know it’s tempting to visit the places we’ve all missed so much, but until we can give you the warm welcome we all want, we ask visitors to think carefully before travelling to the area and to stay local if possible this bank holiday weekend.

“Following the renewed government guidelines, we’ve already had reports of large crowds at tourist hotspots where it was almost impossible to stay two metres apart, putting the safety of our local communities at risk.

“We’re asking people to take responsibility for their own actions by carefully considering whether they really need to visit, and whether they will be able to park safely and stick to social distancing guidelines when they arrive.

“Please remember that most of our facilities and tourism businesses remain closed, and until they are able to reopen safely our message to the public is to think before you travel, act responsibly and protect our communities.”

The tourist board is encouraging visitors to continue experiencing the Peak District and Derbyshire from home via their virtual experiences page.
