The restaurant and drive-thru will open at the site of the former multi-storey car park on West Bars on an as yet unspecified date – with up to 65 jobs set to be created.

It will be the company’s third outlet in the town.

The food giant has now applied to Chesterfield Borough Council for a licence to provide ‘late night refreshment on and off the premises’, from 11pm to midnight every day of the week.

When the restaurant was given planning approval last year, Liberal Democrat Councillor Ed Fordham said it was ‘good news’ but the takeaway service must become ‘less environmentally damaging’.

A copy of the McDonald’s application can be inspected at the Licensing Counter at Chesterfield Borough Council’s Customer Service Centre, at 85 New Square.

Representations must be made to the council no later than May 11, 2021.
