Derbyshire woman turns 100 – something she ‘never imagined’

Mary Barker celebrated her 100th birthday at Claydon Lodge Care Home, North Wingfield, on August 15.
Mary was born and raised in Holmewood and worked at the Robinsons factory in Chesterfield from when she left school aged 14 until her retirement.

Hide AdShe married the late George in 1941 and is the mother of Christine and Gregory, and has numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary said: “I never imagined I’d make my 100th birthday – I was overwhelmed!
“I had a lovely day.”
She started her big day in style with a special birthday breakfast and enjoyed window visits from family members.
In the afternoon, Mary had a tea party with fellow service users and staff.

Hide AdMary and her family said they were ‘very grateful’ for the efforts made by the home for her birthday celebrations.
They also thanked everyone for their kind messages, cards and gifts.
