This is what Staveley needs most - according to our readers

As previously reported by the Derbyshire Times, the Staveley Town Deal is aiming to secure up to £25million of Government funding to help improve the area.

Now, Chesterfield Borough Council has launched an online consultation asking people how they would like to see Staveley developed in the future.

The Derbyshire Times set up a Twitter poll to find out what residents think the town needs most and the results were:

Investment in the town centre – 67 per cent

More things for children – 18 per cent

More housing – nine per cent

Improved transport – six per cent

On our Facebook page, residents also had a say on what they would like to see in Staveley to help improve the area.

Julie Dawson said: “It would be nice to see some small, independent shops.”

Sonya Lavery said: “Anything that helps kids with additional needs – a youth club maybe.”

Emma Smith said: “A decent park. All of our youngsters have to travel a way to get to a decent park.”

Steve Twelves said he wanted to see a ‘better police presence’ in Staveley to cut down on anti-social behaviour.

Referring to the borough council’s online consultation, Councillor Tricia Gilby, leader of the authority, said: “It’s vital that local residents and businesses have their say on the future of Staveley.

“We need to work together to ensure that we are delivering the projects that matter most to the people of Staveley.”
