Derbyshire woman shares secret to long and happy life as she turns 100

A Derbyshire woman who has celebrated her 100th birthday says ‘being happy and pleasant’ is the secret to a long and fulfilling life.

Edna Chapman, who lives at the Vale Care Home in Bolsover, marked her big birthday with family, fellow residents and staff on August 13.

Born in Mastin Moor, Edna worked at Staveley Co-op for many years.

She was married to her husband Ronald for around 50 years before he sadly died.

Edna had one son, Brian.

Over the years, Edna loved to dance and had many family get-togethers were she was the last one dancing at the end of the night.

Giving the secret to a long and happy life, Edna said: “Being happy and pleasant has kept me going."

She added: “I received a card from the Queen and had a party with home staff and residents for my birthday.

“I also had visits from some family at a safe distance.

“It was wonderful.”
