Decision made over Chesterfield bar sign

Chesterfield Borough Council has given Bar35 retrospective planning permission for the signage over its entrance.

However, in granting the retrospective planning permission, the council said in a report: “The proposal is considered to be acceptable in appearance and would not significantly adversely impact the visual amenity and character of the conservation area.

“It is also worth noting that shop fronts change over time with new occupants and this unit has had a number of operators in recent years, some of which have introduced large signage with a light coloured background.”

After the decision was made, Victoria Naylor, who owns the bar on Stephenson Place, told the Derbyshire Times: “I’m absolutely elated.

“Chesterfield Borough Council has been brilliant regarding looking at the building’s past, present and future and what’s best for it due to historical changes.

“I’m very pleased it’s not purely just down to the civic society to make the overall decision.”

Commenting on the news on Bar35’s Facebook page, Maxine Louise Church said: “Your sign looks fab – very funky and classy.”

Donna Keeton said: “I love your sign and your bar.”

Margaret Millar added: “Common sense prevails.”
