An 18-year-old student from Chesterfield will sing on telly’s The Voice UK, aiming to win over celebrity judges.

Jack Algar tells followers on social media: “I’ve never been so excited in my life. It’s been a big part of my life for the past year now and I’ve been waiting a long time to tell people.”

Jack is a part-time musician and lead singer in Derventio. He will audition on The Voice UK this Saturday, September 12 with the hope of securing one of the star judges as his mentor.

Jack comments: “I’ll be watching and if you want to come to The Neptune Beer Emporium, where we did one of our first ever gigs, then feel free to come along and watch it.”

On the prime-time telly show, A-level student Jack will sing to a panel comprising American rapper will.i.am, superstar legend Sir Tom Jones, McFly’s Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones plus Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland who is a new judge in this series.

This audition will be judged purely on his voice, with the celebrities turning their backs to the stage so they can’t watch Jack’s performance or see what he looks like. If the panellists like what they hear, they press a red button and their chair spins round.

Should only one of the panel members turn their chair on hearing Jack sing, he will join that coach’s team. If multiple panellists are impressed by Jack’s singing, the teenager will choose his mentor for the rest of the show.

The Voice UK will be screened on ITV1 on September 12 at 7pm with episode four of series 14 also available on ITVX.
