Marie Higginbottom, a heart failure nurse, and Simon Harnarayan, a musculoskeletal physiotherapist, will start the challenge at 9am on Sunday – when the London Marathon would have been held if it weren’t for the coronavirus pandemic.

They will each run 44km on their cross trainer, taking turns to do 11km segments.

The couple expect to complete the challenge in around four hours and are doing it to raise money for the town’s Ashgate Hospicecare.

Marie said: “We have decided to try and raise some money for Ashgate Hospicecare as currently fundraising events for Ashgate and other charities have been postponed.

“Every little helps, no matter how small.

“Thank you to everyone for their support.”
