Chesterfield bar's bid to revert back to 6am closing time

Vibe reduced its closing time to 5am after former Chesterfield soldier Joseph Robotham died aged 23 following an incident outside the premises last month.

Now, the bar is seeking to revert back to its previous closing time of 6am.

Vibe has applied to Chesterfield Borough Council for a variation of its premises licence.

According to a notice on the council’s website, ‘the variation applied for is to add the sale and supply of alcohol on and off the premises from midnight to midnight every day’.

A spokesperson for Vibe said: “We would not be looking to open 24/7/365.

“The opening hours would be the same as they previously were and the venue would close at 6am.”

According to its Facebook page, Vibe is currently open between 11pm and 5am on Wednesday and Thursday and between 10pm and 5am on Friday and Saturday.

Mr Robotham, an engineer who lived on Sheffield Road, was taken to hospital after he was allegedly hit to the head with a glass bottle outside Vibe bar in Holywell Street during the early hours of February 8.

He sadly died at Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital the following night.

After the incident, Connor Rose, 24, of no fixed abode, was charged with murder and possession of an offensive weapon. He is due to stand trial later this year.

A second man, 28, was arrested on suspicion of affray and subsequently released on bail pending further enquiries.
